  1. While I’m not at ComicCon, I will be typing away at my 30K draft (it includes dragons!), trying not to drown my Animal Crossing character in fan-appropriate apparel, and working on my local librarians to buy a copy of Vicious for the shelves.

  2. I will be painting the outside of my house in 60 degree weather after working for 9 hours a day at the office. 🙁 Yippie.

  7. Since I live in NYC but didn’t buy tickets in time, while I am #NotAtComicCon I will likely hang out in the neighborhood and try to absorb some of the NYCC culture vicariously when attendees duck out for a bagel or a slice of pizza.

  15. I’ll be getting ready to move while I’m #NotAtComicCon. I have a bookcase that could be filled out with some new books!

  24. While not at Comic Con, I’ll be playing board games with a group of friends and writing a research paper for my Operating Systems Security class.

  25. While I am not at ComicCon, I will be refinishing my kitchen that the contractors screwed up. I have 3 days to get it done before having to go back to work. 🙁

  29. This week I will be finishing a research paper looking at how the Book of Revelation matches up flawlessly with The Lord of the Rings. Should prove to be an enlightening weekend!

  33. I will probably spend the weekend catching up on Legends of Korra and binge watching Veronica Mars when I’m not at work and of course reading some great books.

  34. I will be taking a radioactive idodine pill to prepare for my thyroid uptake and scan. I’d much rather be at Comic-Con, but I have to stay away from pregant women and kids for two days. 😐

  45. While not at comic con this weekend I will be watching my fabulous band geek child perform for finals competition. Who knew band geeks had finals?!

  46. I will be trying to dig out nasty old prickly bushes (aka bayberry bushes) that have been allowed to run rampant for the last 100 years or so …. I’d *much* rather be in New York!

  50. Chores, running through some science experiments with my boys, and a birthday party for my niece.

  52. Reading the Ender’s Shadow series and dreaming of them one day making a movie for Bean. Hell yeah,

  53. While not at comic con this week, I will be catching up on yard work – cleaning out planting beds, chopping wood, etc – in preparation for the cooler months ahead!

  58. i will be working at my brand new job, searching for a house, and playing skyrim and/or assassin’s creed 3

  62. I’m going to try my Zombiecide board game expansions that arrive in the mail this week and go for a hike to enjoy the fall foliage.

  64. I will be working on the recording of an audio book, not a very exciting one unfortunately but informative. And then, go and be an actress in a haunted house.

  66. My dad is coming this weekend to meet his baby granddaughter for the first time. We plan to read a lot, explore Sleepy Hollow, and trying to avoid thinking about the fact that we’re not at Comic Con…. 🙁

  70. While not at ComicCon I will be working. But in the evening I’ll be reading Paul Kemp’s The Godborn. I have waited a long time for this book, so I am excited about it.

  71. While not at NYCC I will be doing homework, which includes reading “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”. Yes, I get to read a Philip K. Dick book for homework.

  73. I will be writing poems about rain while I am not at New York Comic Con. And each will have something to do with each thing in the swag bag. Probably. But that also sounds like a lot of work and I would rather eat or something. But probably.

  75. While sadly not at Comic Con, I anticipate as a family we’ll be kicking the vestiges of flu-cold-whattheheckhappenedtome to the curb this weekend. Plus, the crazy avid runner in the family will do a Halloween 5K while sick and attempt to not implode. Totally fabulous, huh?! 🙂

  81. While not at ComicCon I will be in upstate NY toiling away in my crap job wishing I could do cool stuff like go to ComicCon in NYC.

  82. I’ll be enjoying thanksgiving long weekend with my 1 year old son. Eating lots of turkey, potatoes, salt beef, and stuffing. Reading as much as I can to him as well. He loves to turn the pages.

  87. Though I can’t make it down to New York for comic con I will however be spending this week doing some northern bow hunting and working on my college class work.

  91. It’s not so much fabulous… More like anti-fabulous, I’ll be working in Arizona, rather than in New York let alone Comic-Con in New York.

  94. While wishing I was at Comic Com NY this week, I will be making twig wreaths to sell to florists who use them to make beautiful things, and also working on an articulated Table of Contents for my next book on Shamanism.

  95. While Comic Con is going on I will be reading Jay Kristoff’s new book Kinslayer, Gearing up for the Walking dead, touching up on my GTA V and slinging tacos, ’cause that’s what I do best.

  96. I’ll be working on garments for a steampunk wedding this weekend with my friend/boss, while not at NYCC

  98. I just started reading all the Discworld novels, so I’m set for another couple of months or so. But after that it’s the desert, I need more books !

  101. In NC, I’m playing Mrs. Fixit and generally being a janitor while I chase after my 3 kids: fixing toys, furniture, light fixtures, and attempting to cook things that they will eat. NYCC sounds like way way more fun.

  104. While I’m #NotAtComicCon this weekend, I will be celebrating homecoming at my alma mater! War Eagle!

  106. Something fabulous? I get to shop for a new pair of shoes this weekend, for my new job that starts on Monday.

  115. While I’m #NotAtComicCon I’ll be playing a video game or two, walking the dog, doing housework, reading the paper, writing some…. the same sort of stuff I always do. So sad! But it only whets my appetite for the day – some day, maybe – when I can be at ComicCon!

  117. While not at NY Comic Con I’ll be working on my daughters latest cosplay costum, and watching the Walking Dead marathon. So it won’t be all bad.

  127. This week instead of attending NYCC, I’ll be preparing for our annual Harry Potter Party! This includes making chocolate frogs, pumpkin pasties, and cauldron cakes, coming up with questions for the Trivia Tournament, and making wands to be given away as prizes. It’s a fun time every year!

  132. While I am #NotAtComicCon this week, I will be GMing for my favorite group of players, and talking my daughters into watching Fellowship of the Ring with me (finally).

  136. While not at comic-con I will be working at my university keeping students out of trouble, writing snail mail letters to friends, and continuing the 3rd season of the X-Files.

  148. While I am not at NYCC, I will be planning my University’s charity Yule Ball and sewing a pirate costume for my Sewing for the Theatre class!

  149. While I am not at Comic-Con, I will sewing a Shadow Hunter costume for my daughter and a Ranger’s Apprentice cape and braces for my son.

  151. I am preparing to start a new job next week and to visit with a good friend this weekend.

  158. I’ll finally be starting in on the stack of scifi books that have been building over the last few weeks.

  162. I will be riding my motorcycle thru Miami, wearing plate-maille, a viking horned Helm(ut) with a German two-handed longsword strapped across my back highlander style. I’ll need the reading material while I’m in jail, lol.

  168. I am completing the work for a contract which isn’t renewing in November so I’ll need the books to keep me from falling into a deep funk as I decide what I want to do with the time I won’t be working.

  169. Other than the usual hamster wheel of my job and enjoying what passes for autumn weather in Cali, I’ll be finishing the first two books in Joseph Nassise’s “Jeremiah Hunt” trilogy so I can start reading an ARC of the third installment, WATCHER OF THE DARK.

  195. While I’m #NotAtComicCon, Saturday I have ungodly early hour half-marathon training (which is admittedly not fabulous, but doing the Austin Half Marathon in February will be). Then Saturday evening, I’m going to a showing of Serenity & Dr Horrible benefitting Equality Now & the local domestic violence shelter. So that adds up to fabulous.

  212. I’ll be helping to manage our swim meet. Kind of like a Comic Con due to all the people packing the pool deck, only with more water and less comics.

  214. While not at ComicCon this weekend, I will be welcoming our third grandchild, and first granddaughter, into the world. And looking forward to teaching her all about the wonders of books!

  215. I’ll be designing a custom-built murder mystery for my annual Halloween party, this year with Edgar Allan Poe theme. And doing all the cooking/cleaning/decorating required to host it.

  217. I will be doing the same thing I do most weeks: taking care of my two year old with lots of laughing, playing and reading! I will also be impatiently waiting for her map time so I can do some reading of my own.

  220. I will be not at Comic Con because I will be meeting with my book club to discuss Neil Gaimen’s new book “Ocean at the End of the Lane.” Then I might go to the sea food festival. And then I’ll be working on Sunday! 🙂

  255. While not at NYCC, I will be doing parent conferences and playing computer games. And certainly avoiding the music festival in town.

  258. In the world of comics and associated culture, I’ve recently found the delightful Marvel version of Puzzle Quest on Android… Quite fun, and one of the things I’ll be doing while not at ComicCon.

  261. While I’m #NotAtComicCon, I’ll be prepping for Nanowrimo by working on an outline for my urban fantasy novel, knitting a TMNT coffee cozy for my husband, attending a birthday party for a makerspace, and limping my way through a C25k program. Looking forward to it! 🙂

  264. I will be doing lots of things some halloween crafts with my kids. spinning some yarn making some halloween jewelry out of polymer clay. should be fun although I would rather be there at NYCC #notatcomiccon #nycc

  290. While #NotAtComicon I have started a Girl Scout troop, volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children, taught college students algebra, taught public school students history, and taught my daughter kindergarten.

  300. Attempting not to hyperventilate because I am sending my ms to beta readers, for the first time. Instead of writhing in horror at yet another stupid typo in that book I will finish the last chapter on another and take out my anxiety on the elliptical instead of baking. Maybe I’ll bake a little? And I promised myself that I would start and finish at least one of the books on my kindle that has been waiting forever and ever because I’ve been too spastic to sit down and relax. I’d rather be at ComicCon though.

    Likely will be finishing a couple hundred pages of The Way of Kings and prototyping a new website in AngularJS/HTML for an interview.

  309. I will be attending my first prenatal appointment. It’s pretty exciting to me, even if the internet usually finds that sort of thing annoying.

  315. I just moved. It involved driving for 12 hours (this is in the car, not the truck) through 5 different states. I have the desire, but not the energy, to be able to attend NYCC this year. However, when I’m not unpacking I will be reading a book I have not read yet. Obviously it will be a Tor book, but I haven’t decided which.

  317. I will be making my bedroom extra-fabulous by re-painting the walls a lovely sky blue color, hanging chocolate brown curtains, and finally–at long last–putting some framed prints on the walls!

  319. Instead of ComicCon, I’ll be writing and debugging computer simulations of ant colony behavior for a class on Complex Adaptive Systems I’m taking.

  337. Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada. Going to be eating some turkey-lurkey with the family. Some of the cover art on the books in the prize pack photo are amazing though. Going to have to track them down and have a closer look!

  338. I will be heading to a theater to see “Gravity.” And playing with my five kids. My 12-year-old daughter always complains she doesn’t have anything new to read, so this would really be awesome.

  362. While #notatcomiccon I will be replacing the supports on the porch of our house. It doesn’t sound exciting until you think about it: a thousand pounds of concrete, six-by-six beams, and lots of heavy lifting = pretty extreme. (Also, hopefully, finally reading the new Jim C. Hines, which definitely qualifies.)

I’ll be playing a Native American ash flute that was made from a 75-year old tree that blew down in our 103-acre wood. We’ll be recording it in the place where the tree used to stand. Would love some new books for when I’m done, though!

  374. Nothing too exciting, but since I am #NotAtComicCon, I am going to be reading (shocker!), playing video games, sleeping…. and of course the reason I couldn’t go… working! Booooo!! (Hope it was amazing!!)

  375. Though I have read some of the books in the bundle, others I have not. I would enjoy reading the new titles and re-reading the old.

  380. While #NotAtComicCon, I’m watching my toddler son frolic through the park, looking at the world with wide eyes of discovery. Everything here is part of his fantasy world, and he is the conquerer!

  381. I’m #NotAtComicCon because I’m a student, so I’m sitting in my dorm room, doing schoolwork, writing/reading in my free time, and being jealous of everyone at #NYCC.

  383. I will be finishing a short fantasy story (hopefully) and working full time. AT THE SAME TIME

  387. I will be taking my 95 yr. old dad to his doctor appointments and cooking dinner for him.

While I am not at comic con I will be at work updating and fixing computers, at second job doing accounting work, and in my free time doing homework so some day I will finally have my college degree ( maybe by the time I’m ninety). If I’m really lucky I might squeeze some recreational reading in there at some point. 🙂

  393. I couldn’t afford to be at NYCC but I will be there in spirit as I read several graphic novels and manga while wearing my Wonder Woman wristband and tee and checking my Twitter for all the NYCC news! Keep the awesomeness coming! <3

  396. This week I am fabulously taking a certification course to drive ambulances, enjoying a visit from my family, and celebrating my birthday. 🙂

  397. I’ll be changing diapers, doing housework, finishing up some research and (if I’m lucky), getting some reading and writing done when my wife has our little one. NYCC would be a close second to this! 😉

  400. I won’t be at Comic Con. Instead, I’ll be working on setting up my freelance writing business and finishing my first draft of my first fantasy novel.

    Running sound for a Gospel concert, reading/proofing my wife’s story’s plot, working my butt off in the hot Florida sun, selling entry/player packs for a disc golf Ace Race, and wishing I had more time to read.

  410. I won’t be at ComicCon, but I will be cleaning my house, cooking my husband dinner, grading science tests, reading Republic of Thieves, and working on lesson plans for next week. If I’m lucky, I might throw back a cider or two somewhere in there and have a few laughs with the hubby. 🙂

  412. While not at comic con i went to a concert, have been babysitting my nephew and will be starting a new book. Would love a chance to win a tote of books.

  414. While I won’t be able to attend comiccon #NotAtComicCon, I will be translating a religious conference from English into the Yapese language spoken by a group of people in Micronesia who don’t wear clothes and have giant stone discs as money.

  416. While not at comic con, I am spending my weekend reading the pile of accumulated back log books I have waiting for me, and then enjoying the walking dead premiere!

  417. Planning my move to Scotland. I very well might be keeping my girlfriend company while she saddle fits. Therefore, I will have a lot of driving time and waiting around time to read :D.

  418. My second son was born 3 weeks ago so I am staying home with my family and putting him to sleep every 3 hours as he tries to stay up and continue searching for entertainment. Listening to the Wheel of Time audiobooks to drown out the screaming in my ear. =)

  421. I will be plugging away at three chapters of Astronomy homework and tests, while sneaking in some time for fun reading (New Spring) and sneaking in some time to follow the Kansas City Chiefs as they hopefully go 6-0!

  422. While not at Comic-Con I will be slaving away trying to get through midterms and the first drafts of my final papers for the semester so I can graduate on time.

  427. I’m working. Wishing I was there. I guess that is not that fabulous but there it is. If I won I could show off the swag to my wife and convince her to go next year though…

  431. While not at NYCC, I am spending my weekend learning everything about the anatomy of the human head. Because that’s obviously much more fun. #notatcomiccon

  433. I’ll be cleaning out my gas floor heater & turning it on high to burn off the dust the vacuum doesn’t get, while it’s still warm enough to air out the house. Fall has come to SoCal. Yes, I know — riveting!
    (Also, regular weekend cleaning chores – the excitement never ends.)

  435. The most fabulous thing I’m doing this week is a Disney movie day with my best friend. Between classes and work and homework my life is kind of lacking in fabulous lately.

  439. While not at Comic con I will be in up state NY hoping to find Omeggang’s Game of Thrones Themed beers.

  440. While I am not at Comic con I will we traveling from Indiana to Upstate New York to visit family and friends. I will also be eating tons of apples.

  443. This weekend I have been caring for daughter. Asthma flare ups are a pain but we are making the best of it by catching up on some movies and cuddling.

    I’m also making pot roast though, so that’s pretty good.

  445. While I was not at NYCC, my best friends and I did a road trip down to Austin City Limits to see the band Matrimony play. On our way back to the hotel, the sky opened up, and we may as well have showered in our clothes. We were completely soaked, but it was so worth it. I can’t wait to see y’all again at the Texas Library Association annual conference in San Antonio! Librarians FTW!

  447. While not at comiccon, I’ll be at home reading, doing chores, and wishing I were there. Enjoy it!

  448. Working and moving two cats, a puppy and myself into my sisters newly renovated garage from a three bedroom house.

  450. I will be exploring the depths of my local used book stores basement! I recently discovered the shelf-cramped catacombs of this wonderful place. There are thousands of books simply waiting to be read, and possibly a hundred or so waiting for me to buy them!

  463. Since I am not at New York Comic Con, I am at home, spending time with my daughter, enjoying the 3 day weekend, doing my Borderlands 2 100k Loot Hunts and just all around waiting for tonight for Season 4 premier of The Walking Dead.

  464. Though I will not be at New York Comic Con, I will be watching some scary movies, hanging out with a few friends and lending a hand to my best friend who is working on costumes for the local zombie walk.

  468. While I’m #NotatComicCon this week, I’ll be working my regular 40, working on marketing and promotional materials for my first book (due out on Oct 31), and hooking up with my gaming group over Skype for a few late night dungeon raids.

  485. Being #notatcomiccon, I went to the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival in Indiana. There were people in costume! …19th century dresses. Plus on the way home we saw some Amish folk in a carriage.

  486. One fabulous thing I’ll be doing (since I can’t be there) is finally cracking open my recently arrived book: The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch! Then I’ll be doing a book swap with a friend; I’m reading Alamut by Judith Tarr and she gets the amazing The Way of Kings!

One fabulous thing I will be doing this week while not at New York Comic Con (I wish I could have gone, so thank you for this opportunity!) is the last mowing of the season (it’s way overdue, I know) of the front and back yard. Last week had too many things, but it was a great time with family. Oh, and I’m reading KINSLAYER by Jay Kristoff. It’s fantastic. I’m savoring every bit of it. It’s too good to rush it. Look for my review, soon.

  501. I’ll be catching up on some Green Lantern comics while continuing to work, and probably try to round out the week with some X-Wing Miniatures. Love some of the other ideas in these posts, though. Maybe its time for another Sanderson marathon, mixed with some Firefly for good measure.

  518. Well I’m not at comic con I’ll be working on 4 assignments in college and studying for my last mid-term. While doing all this I will be catching up on my Dune novels by Frank Herbert. As well as re-reading Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card.

  519. While not at #NYCC I’ll be rockin’ my 16 day old new born to sleep and watching his dream spren!

  521. There is a backlog of minis awaiting my inexpert painting attempts and a dog demanding the use of a hand for scratchings. I believe I have a full week ahead of me.

  524. Wow, what a bundle! I’ll mostly be reading and catching up on some tv watching this week.
