My Real Children Wins the Tiptree Award

My Real Children by Jo WaltonWe’re proud to share the news that Jo Walton has won the 2014 James Tiptree, Jr. Literary Award for My Real Children!

Calling it a “moving, thought-provoking novel,” the Tiptree Award explains, “My Real Children is important for the way it demonstrates how things could have been otherwise — and might still be.”

The other winner of the Tiptree Award, Monica Byrne for The Girl in the Road, will be recognized at WisCon in May along with the Honor List and long list winners. Since Jo Walton is unable to attend WisCon this year she will be honored at an alternate celebration in San Francisco in August.

The James Tiptree, Jr. Award is an annual literary prize for science fiction or fantasy that expands or explores our understanding of gender.

See the complete list of winners and details about the award here. Congratulations, Jo!
