Tor Books is heading to San Diego Comic-Con!

Place holder of - 78 Once again Tor (Booth# 2707) continues our wildly popular *in-booth signings and giveaways, offering you a chance to meet your favorite authors up close and personal and pick up free books. Thursday, July 24th

    Tor Teen author Ben Tripp (The Accidental Highwayman) joins Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles) and others that will give insight to the fairy tales of old, and new!

Celebrating LOCUS Magazine’s Best Publisher for the 26th year in a row!

Once again Tor (Booth# 2707) continues our wildly popular *in-booth signings and giveaways, offering you a chance to meet your favorite authors up close and personal and pick up free books.

The big news this year is Summit Entertainment’s showcase for the highly anticipated film adaptation of

ENDER’S GAME

Coming to theaters November 1, 2013!

Summit will present never-before-seen new footage, appearances by cast members and filmmakers, and several massive, interactive fan events. A full slate of activities related to the film to be unveiled at this year’s Comic-Con, including:

Hall H Panel – The studio’s panel on Thursday, July 18th 3:50-4:50pm will feature ENDER’S GAME filmmakers and cast, including producer Bob Orci, director Gavin Hood, and cast members Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld and Abigail Breslin.

Exclusive Fan Experience – Attendees will be able to visit an elaborate, specially constructed ENDER’S GAME exhibit outside of the Hilton Gaslamp, featuring 8 unique rooms representing the most iconic environments of Ender’s world, complete with original film props and set pieces used in the movie. Throughout the experience, attendees will be able to see exclusive film footage on LED screens, interact with new digital content, integrate photos of themselves into the highly anticipated Battle Room, and register to win a home make over.

Convention Floor Booth – Summit Entertainment’s booth located within the Grand Hall will highlight ENDER’S GAME footage. Premium promotional items will be distributed to the 120,000 attendees walking the convention floor, and booth visitors will be given the opportunity to win “fast passes” to the ENDER’S Game Exclusive Fan Experience, granting them entry without having to wait in line.

Poster Placeholder of - 17Tor Books announces the next book from New York Times bestselling author John Scalzi – The Human Division – to be released first as monthly serial e-books!

NEW YORK, NY, July 6, 2012: Tor Books is pleased to announce a very unique new project with New York Times bestselling author John Scalzi. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the newest novel in Scalzi’s Old Man’s War series, and it will be published in 2013: The Human Division. Before its hardcover release however, the book will be published in a series of digital e-book episodes, a new format for the author and the imprint.

As Tor Senior Editor Patrick Nielsen Hayden explains: “The Human Divison will be an experiment: an episodic novel, released initially in digital, serialized form. Currently the plan is to publish these episodes weekly between December 2012 through February 2013. Like the episodes of a good high-end cable drama, each one will have enough internal integrity to work as an enjoyable chunk of story on its own, but each will advance a ‘season’-long storyline as well.

Ultimately the entire work will be published as a normal printed book and a normal e-book, in the late spring or early summer of 2013. And we’ll be doing our best to make it so that buying the book in serial form costs about the same as buying the full e-book. There may also be some small extra material in the full-length book.”

John Scalzi is a Guest of Honor at San Diego Comic-Con International next week, where he will discuss this special new project, along with the rest of his work, on his spotlight panel, moderated by Wil Wheaton, on Saturday, July 14, from 5:30-6:30 PM in Room 7AB. This month’s chat takes place at a special time, Thursday, July 21st, 10am – 11am PST, live from the Tor Booth (#2707), the show floor and elsewhere at San Diecgo Comic-Con.

In honor of this infamous and legendary convention devoted exclusively to all the things we geeks love, the #Torchat will take a look at goings on within the Tor Booth, panels and everything else we think is exciting and interesting. We just hope we can cover it all in an hour! Four members of the Tor staff will be Tweeting: Tor Books Ad/promo Manager Theresa DeLucci, Digital Marketing Coordinator for Tor; Laura Fitzgerald, Director of Publicity Patty Garcia, and Senior Publicist Extraordinaire Justin Golenbock. Fans are invited to follow or join in using the Twitter hashtag #torchat.

About the Staff

Theresa DeLucci (@tdelucci) is the Ad/promo Manager at Tor Books and also a blogger at Tor.com where she writes about television among other things. An avid gamer, DeLucci is also a graduate of the 2008 Clarion West Writers’ Workshop. She can also be found working on the perfect cup of homemade chai tea and mouth-watering brunches.

Laura Fitzgerald (@Laura_FitzG) is the Digital Marketing Coordinator for Tor and self-proclaimed Anime nerd. She keeps up a blog in her copious amounts of spare time where she writes about publishing, marketing, Anime, YA, “fantasay” and other things that rhyme with “A” and end in “ing.” She is a force to be reckoned with.

Patty Garcia (@opattyg) a.k.a. yours truly, is Director of Publicity. She likes the hard stuff, both sci-fi and otherwise, and has one of the best offices in the Flatiron building thanks to her meticulousness/borderline obsessiveness. She is also the bass player for The Rats, a NYC garage punk band, and is proud owner of a 1977 Rickenbacker 3000 and a 1976 Fender Musicman.

Justin Golenbock (@jgolenbo) is Senior Publicist and works with some of the bigger authors and campaigns on the Tor list including The Wheel of Time® series and Brandon Sanderson, Cory Doctorow, Vernor Vinge as well as our gaming properties comprised of Halo®, CPC Games, Bioshock and Dragon Age, to name a few. He is a beer aficionado, baseball enthusiast, Thundercats devotee, and general all around nerd. #Torchat was his brainchild; watch out for this one.

Tor/Forge Books Announces Digital Download Initiative

Author Voices to debut at RWA and San Diego Comic-Con featuring co-promotions with Tor.com and Heroes and Heartbreakers

New York, NY – Thursday, June 23, 2011 – Tor/Forge Books is pleased to announce Tor/Forge Author Voices Digital Downloads, a three-volume digital initiative whereby consumers will download exclusive content via company social networking sites, website and newsletter. Said content will be available via mobile as well as online at us.macmillan.com and Tor.com. The exclusives will be promoted at conferences this summer beginning with Romance Writers of America (RWA) next week and San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) in July.

Image Placeholder of - 9Tor/Forge Author Voices Vol #1 will release at RWA via a QR code at the Tor table and will take fans to a landing page allowing them to download roughly 400 pages in a pdf or epub file. Excerpts from upcoming books by Tor/Forge and an original short story by RITA nominated Deborah Coonts, (Lucky Stiff, Forge 2011) will be some of the content available in the volume. The landing page will also have a newsletter signup and information about the Tor panel at the show as well as a reminder to visit HeroesandHeartbreakers.com, the Macmillan owned community website for romance readers. The file will become available for download on all ebook retailer sites on July 5th.

Placeholder of -48Tor/Forge Author Voices Vol #2 will debut at San Diego Comic-Con, July 20th-24th and will feature author excerpts and chapter previews with special attention to gaming properties. Tor/Forge and Tor.com will partner with a joint landing page on Tor.com where the file will be available for download. Tor.com will also offer a variety of sweepstakes including a tablet. On the Tuesday after the con, July 26th, the file will become available on all ebook retailer sites.

Macmillan’s Digital Marketing department will take advantage of the Comic-Con promotions to test run a mobile campaign which will feature a keyword whereby the public can text a number to receive a link to the landing page, though it will also be available via QR code. Tor/Forge plans on promoting this effort via posters, postcards and other promotional items in the Tor Booth (#2707, 2709).

“Mobile, in combination with traditional marketing channels, is a great way to reach a new audience and establish an immediate connection with fans. We are testing four different mobile channels at once during San Diego Comic-Con with two great partners, Link.me and Zoove. If the Comic-Con campaign proves successful, we plan to integrate mobile marketing channels into more of our traditional marketing efforts moving forward,” says Michael Harbolt, VP, Digital Markets.

Tor/Forge Author Voices Vol 3 is currently in production and will offer similar content to promote at New York Comic-Con in October. Included in this volume will be an ad with links to all the publisher’s online assets and other Tor/Forge digital marketing initiatives. The company hopes to design the ads for the individual imprints in the future and are looking into creating a similar campaign for their YA and children’s imprints, Starscape and Tor Teen.
